Sound Meter

A sound level meter or sound meter is an instrument that measures sound pressure level, commonly used in noise pollution studies for the quantification of different kinds of noise, especially for industrial, environmental and aircraft noise.

However, the reading from a sound level meter does not correlate well to human-perceived loudness, which is better measured by a loudness meter. The current international standard that specifies sound level meter functionality and performance is the IEC 61672-1:2002.

Sound Pressure Level meter application uses your built-in microphone to measure noise volume in decibels (db), and (SPL)shows a reference.

Due to some microphone limitations on some devices the meter range is different, usually the low end of the scale cannot be achieved because of the microphone noise and the upper end of the scale is limited by the microphone distortion on high levels.

This application is not meant to be used in place of scientific instrumentation.
