Super Saiyan Goku Dokkan

You know what they say: Another year, another new fighting game set in the ultimate goku universe.

Unfortunately, there's very little about Super Saiyan: Tenkaichi Tag Team that's actually new.

The introduction of team battles may appeal to those who can round up some friends to play with, but it isn't enough to keep this familiar fighting system from feeling stale, and the story mode recycles the same tired material that's been used for game after game in the series.

Avid xenoverse fans who are eager to take Goku, Vegeta, and the rest of the gang on the go may appreciate the fact that this is the first entry in the budokai series to come to the game, but most others won't find much to get excited about here.

After the 50th time playing through the same thing over and over again, it almost makes sitting through the story sequences pointless. I understand the games have no other storylines to follow, since the series has long been finished, but at this point, I can re-tell the entire story from memory, down to every detail.

As great as this feature is it does have it's flaw, namely non-chargeable Supers are totally obsolete. The one thing they had going for them was thier instant use, requiring no time at all to come out. Since this needed to be changed we're left with attacks that take 2-3 seconds to use that, in the end, deal less damage.

And then there's the way they designed thier Tag Team combat. Whatever developer decided it was a good idea to make a 2 on 1 game without some sort of warning system when your being targeted really needs to rethink his ideas, or at least try it out for themselves.

I'm not talking much, it could even be as small as your personal indicator flashing red if the opponent is firing a Super at you. 2 on 1 as it is now consists of little more than flying around, crossing your fingers that your not about to get pounded, and trying to find an opening to attack, or at least charge Ki.

Feature:

- Fast, balanced, in-depth combat that keeps you coming back for more.

- Characters are balanced out, some having a slight advantage over others, but nothing major.

- Overall a well executed 2 on 2 game.

- Best game graphics to date.

The voice acting has the goofy, exaggerated quality you'd expect to hear from spiky-haired characters having heated exchanges about power levels and dominating the universe.

But the sounds of battle quickly become grating, thanks particularly to a high-pitched whistling noise you hear whenever a character gets sent hurtling backward through the air, which happens all the time.
