Yā Sīn [2] (also Yaseen; Arabic: يٰسٓ, yāsīn; the letters ‘Yāʼ’ and ‘Sīn’) is the 36th surah in the Quran (sūrah). It has 83 verses (verses). It is considered an earlier "surah of Mecca". Some scholars believe that verse 12 is from the time of Medina. [3] While the surah begins in Juz '22, mostly in Juz' 23.

This surah begins with the eponymous Arabic letter (muqatta'at): يس (yā sīn). [4] The meaning of the letter Ya Sin, although unknown, is debated among Islamic academics. One of his interpretations is "O man!" refers to Muhammad because the following verses are translated as "By the Qur'an, which is full of Wisdom, verily Thou art one of the messengers". [5] Tafsir al-Jalalayn, an early Sunni tafsir, concluded, "God knows best what He means by these [letters]." [6]

The surah focuses on establishing the Qur’an as the source of divinity, and it warns of the fate of those who mock God’s revelations and are stubborn. The surah tells of the punishment that befell the previous generation of infidels as a warning to the present and future generations. In addition, the surah reiterates the sovereignty of God as exemplified by His creation through signs from nature.

The surah ends with an argument in favor of the existence of the Resurrection and the sovereign power of God.
