Zain Javadd "Zayn" Malik is an English singer and songwriter. In 2010, Malik began auditioning as a solo artist for the British television series X Factor. After being eliminated as a solo participant, Malik returned to the competition, along with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson, to form a group known as One Direction. During his time in the group, Malik and his group members have released albums such as Up All Night (2011), Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013), and Four (2014). In March 2015, sources from Malik announced out of the group.

In 2015 Malik signed his contract as a solo artist with RCA Records, with his debut studio album Mind of Mine releasing on March 25, 2016. This album and its premier single, Pillowtalk, reached number one in several countries, making Malik the first British artist album and single debuted at number one in the UK and United States. Since starting his solo career, he used the Zayn mononim.
