Constitution of Croatia

The Constitution of the Republic of Croatia is a unique general legal act with the highest legal force in the Republic of Croatia, which contains a predominant number of constitutional norms. It was passed by the Croatian Parliament on December 22, 1990, so it is called the Christmas Constitution. It contains 152 articles in X parts, and therefore belongs to shorter constitutions according to the length of the text.

The original text of the Constitution had 142 articles in Parts IX. The first amendment to the Constitution took place on 18 December 1997 by the Constitutional Act on Amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia. An important revision of the Constitution also took place on November 9, 2000. New changes followed in March 2001, after which a consolidated text of the Constitution and minor amendments were published. It was last amended on 11 December 2013 by an amendment to Article 61, which stipulates that marriage is the life union of a man and a woman.
