As part of the government's plan to introduce 'Kangaroo Mother Care’ in health facilities across Bangladesh to cut death and disability rates from preterm births in a “cost-effective” way, Save the Children has been giving the technical support to the Directorate General of Family Planning under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the establishment of KMC.

Against this backdrop Kangaroo Mother Care Service was inaugurated at the Mohammadpur Fertility Services & Training Centre (MFSTC), Dhaka on 07 November, 2016. Mr. Wahid Hossain, Director General, Directorate General of Family Planning, Bangladesh, was the Chief Guest on the occasion, along with other high officials. Dr Shamim Jahan, Director, Health, Nutrition & HIV & Dr Md. Nazrul Islam, Senior Advisor, Saving Newborn Lives (SNL), Dr Wahida Siraj, Manager, SNL were also present, representing Save the Children.
