The engine is the fundamental element of the vehicle. To measure the performance of an engine, one of the following power units is expressed:

* horsepower (CV),

* kilowatt (kW),

* couple (Nm).

Difference between engine and electric engine

There are two sources of energy to run an engine:

* thermal energy:

°regards most of the engines of current vehicles in circulation,

°this system transforms chemical energy (carburation) into mechanical energy (heat),

* electrical energy:

°feeds the engine through storage batteries,

°these batteries are discharged in the acceleration phase and recharge during braking phases,

leading to transform the inertia force of the car into electrical energy.

Note: the hybrid engine combines the two sources of energy, thermal and electrical.

Transmission of the car: types of gearboxes

The gearbox:

°is a transmission organ of the car that allows it to move at the desired speed,

according to the needs of the driver or traffic conditions,

°is associated with a clutch which allows the progressive coupling of the motor

and the receiver to transmit the power necessary for the movement of the vehicle.
