In the year 4000 or A trip to Venus, 1899, by Victor Anestin is the very first Romanian SF novel.

Victor Anestin (September 17, 1875 – November 5, 1918) was a Romanian journalist, science popularizer, astronomer and science fiction writer. Anestin wrote three science fiction novels and a large number of articles and over a hundred booklets about science.

In his novel A Celestial Tragedy (published in February 1914), Anestin has one of the earliest descriptions of the possibility of using the atomic power for war purposes, being published in the same year as H. G. Wells - The World Set Free.

În persoana lui Victor Anestin, S.F.-ul românesc işi poate recunoaşte figura emblematică de care genul are atât de mult nevoie, pentru că el a fost nu numai primul nostru autor specializat, dar şi un teoretician şi un mare, un foarte mare animator.

În textul acestui prim roman science fiction românesc, din 1899, găsim tipărit negru pe alb numele celei de-a noua planete a Sistemului Solar, Pluton.

Potrivit tuturor manualelor şi enciclopediilor, obiectul ceresc va fi descoperit efectiv şi denumit astfel abia în 1930 iar sugestia numelui provenise atunci de la o fetiţă de 11 ani din Oxford!
