Imam Abu Dawud's name is Sulaiman bin al-'Ash'as bin Ishaq bin Basyir bin Syidad bin 'Amr al-Azdi as-Sijistani.

Imam Abu Dawud was born in 202 AH and died in 275 AH in Basrah. Since childhood, Abu Dawud has loved science and loved learning because of his close relationship with the ulama

Sunan Abu Dawud is included in the ranks of the main reference books for hadith science. In his life spanning 73 years, Imam Abu Dawud managed to collect no less than 50 thousand hadith. All of this was then studied and selected so that a total of 4,800 hadiths were collected

The book of Sunan Abu Dawud not only contains authentic hadiths, but also some which have dhaif or weak qualities.

Abu Dawud's reason for including these weak hadiths is because according to him, weak hadiths (which if the percentage of weakness is 50%) are better than the opinion of the ulama. So these weak hadiths are a substitute for the opinions of the ulama.
