Holiday Learning Programme: Flying Machines – Manu Whata

Design and build your own manu whata, a traditional Māori kite. Scan your kite into the virtual world where you can fly it!

Discover Rongowhakaata’s ancient tradition of kite making. Design and make your own manu whata, or kite – be inspired by Rongowhakaata’s customary designs.

Use the latest VR technology to put your kite into the virtual world where you can interact with it. Then share your manu whata with friends and whānau so they can fly it too!

We’ve partnered with the Rongowhakaata iwi exhibition and the Immersive Space Programme to bring you this programme.

This programme is open to all skill levels, in October 2017 at Hinatore.

New technologies

Hīnātore explores news ways of learning using transformative technologies, including:

a purpose-built virtual reality (VR) studio where learners create, collaborate and play

telepresence technology that connects learners in remote locations and builds learning communities

the latest educational technologies for learners to collaborate, create, and share, including touch tables, smartphones, and tablets

a range of 3-D scanners and printers to support learners to make and invent.
