This application calculates stresses and deflection in simply supported beams. Both concentrated and uniformly distributed loads are supported. User can enter almost unlimited number of loads by creating input cells with the click of a button. Figures are provided at suitable places for ease of input. There is an in-built tool for calculating cross section properties like 1st and 2nd moment of area etc. This cross section calculation tool displays the current section graphically in run time to avoid mistakes while entering the data. This tool supports a seven element reinforced I beam section calculation which is sufficient for most of the practical cases. In case if the cross section geometry falls outside the capability of section calculator, user can calculate the section properties manually and use the app for calculating stresses and deflection by enter the section properties results in 2nd section on main screen. Detailed user guide is provided inside the app for effective use of section calculation tool.
Similar to the section calculator, all loads (concentrated as well as uniformly distributed) and supports are displayed graphically on the screen. This feature reduces the burden on user and gives a clear picture of current loading situation of beam. Shear force and bending moment diagrams are also generated automatically in same X axis scale below the loading diagram. This makes it easy to understand the effect of loads on the shear force and bending moment. Finally deflection diagram is generated considering effect of both normal and shear stresses. In output section of the app, user can check maximum shear force, stresses and deflection and its location. User can also check these parameters at any point by entering the value of location.
