Atea - Brazilian Association of Atheists and agnostics is a nonprofit organization registered in the website almost http://www.atea.org.br based on IRS - National Register of Legal Entities ( CNPJ ) under number 10.480.171/0001 -19 and 1 registration São Paulo / SP .

It was created on August 31, 2008 by Daniel Sottomaior , Alfredo Spinola and Mauricio Palazzuoli .

Atea has emerged from the growing need for atheists to organize and currently has more than 10,100 members throughout Brazil ( September 2013 ) .

It is a private club , is indeterminate , non- economic character of the organization , charity , welfare , promotion, recreational and educational activities , look no political party or to develop activities in the field of social order q ue promote atheism , agnosticism and the secular state .

Atea is the Law Commission and Religious Liberty OAB / SP , the center for the promotion of religious freedom and human rights by the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro and religious diversity committee for human rights represented at the Presidential Secretariat .

According to its statutes , whether the Brazilian Association of Atheists and agnostics :

Mount atheists and agnostics , defend their interests and rights , throughout the national territory , as well as countries or independent states in which the Brazilian government

have diplomatic representation ;

Fighting stigma and misinformation about atheism and agnosticism, agnostics and atheists ;

Auxiliary self -assertion of atheists and agnostics against social prejudice and rejection ;

Pointing atheism and agnosticism as a philosophical paths viable , consistent and moral ;

Advertise secular ethical systems ;

Promote effective state secularism , struggling in all areas any legal association, which is described in contrast to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of

Brazil ;

Promoting critical thinking and the scientific method , and

Defend you can participate and contribute to the democratic institutions legally described and justified in the Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil , making suggestions , always designed to participate in social discussions and represents public and private actions on the objectives and the legal rights of atheists and agnostics justified state .
