Penal Code - a normative act constituting a set of regulatory provisions
The Penal Code (the abbreviation for the Penal Code, the Penal Code is also adopted in the legal language) - a normative act constituting a set of provisions regulating the criminal liability of citizens of a given country. It defines the definition of a crime, principles of liability for a crime (including circumstances excluding the unlawfulness of an act - so-called counter-scratches), rules for imposing a penalty, and rules on limitation of criminal liability. It also sets out a catalog of penalties, other coercive measures and measures related to subjecting the offender to a trial (such as conditional suspension of execution of a sentence).
In Europe, since the 16th century, there were various texts with similar applications. One of the best known is Constitutio Criminalis Carolina from 1532. In the 18th century, a draft code covering criminal and civil law appeared in Poland - it was the Zamoyski Code.
