The official language of Thailand, Thai is written with a syllabary alphabet of 20 consonants and 24 vowels. The language has a tonal system of 5 tonemes: low, medial, high, descending and ascending.

Although transliterations exist, the difficulty of transcribing its alpha syllabary into Latin characters makes it especially important to master the system of writing the language.
