For every right answer you choose, 10 single grains of rice will be given which will help end global hunger by the United Nations WFP.

FreeRice is a free to play, non-profit and ad-supported site which permits anyone to give to charity by answering trivia word games. The available subjects consist of English vocabulary, English grammar, chemical symbols, multiplication tables, pre-algebra, foreign language vocabulary, human anatomy, SAT, geography, the identification of famous artwork, quotations, literature and world hunger. A user's overall score is actually shown as a pile of rice along with the amount of grains.

To actually play the game, select one of our four definitions that you believe is correct. If you get the answer correct, we donate ten grains of rice to help eliminate world hunger. You will then get a chance to play a different question in the same way. You are able to play for as long as you like and donate as much rice as you want.

We have a customized database containing questions at varying degrees of difficulty. We have levels appropriate for beginners and levels which will challenge the most scholarly professors. Throughout there are levels well suited for students of any age, doctors, homemakers, retired people, business people, truck drivers, etc. It automatically adjusts to your specific level. It starts by giving you questions which get a little harder each time and then, depending on how you do, assigns you an approximate starting level. When you answer a question incorrectly, you go back to a less difficult level. When you get three questions in a row correct, you progress to a more difficult level.

One particular question we get all the time is this, "If you have got all this rice, then why not give it all away as soon as possible?" Unfortunately FreeRice is not sitting on a pile of rice. You along with other participants earn it 10 grains at a time. Here is how it works: when you play the game, sponsor banner ads appear on the bottom of your screen for every correct answer you choose. The money generated by these banners is then used to buy the rice. So by playing, you actually make the money which pays for the rice donated to hungry people.
