Lalitha sahasranamam

Today's young generation is forgetting the ancient indian roots. Here is an attempt to make it easily accessible and retain the tradition. The ancient indian intelligence is collected here in the form of a mobile application. Lalita Sahasranama is a text from Brahmanda Purana (the making / history of the universe). At the request of Agasthya rishi, Hayagreeva is said to have taught him the thousand holiest names of Lalita.

It is a sacred text to the Hindu worshippers of the Goddess Lalita Devi, i.e. the Divine Mother or Goddess Durga, in the form, Shakti. Lalita Sahasranamam contains the thousand names of the Hindu mother goddess Lalita. The names are organized in a hymns (stotras). It is the only sahasranama that does not repeat a single name.

The devas faced a very great enemy Sura Padma who had a boon that he could be killed only by a son of Shiva and Parvathy. So to wake Shiva from his deep meditation the devas deputed Manmatha , the God of love who shot his flower arrows at Parama shiva. Parama shiva woke up and opened his third eye and burnt the God of love into ashes. The Devas and Rathi Devi the wife of Manmatha requested Parama shiva to give life to Manmatha. Heeding for their request Parama shiva stared at the ashes of Manmatha.From the ashes came Bhandasura Who made all the world as impotent and ruled the city called Shonitha pura.He started troubling the devas.
