The Green Mile - Stephen King

The Green Mile (1996) - Stephen King's novel. In 1999, a novel of the same name was made from this novel. The story is told on behalf of Paul Edgecomb, a former warden of the Louisiana federal prison “Cold Mountain,” and now a resident of the Georgia Pines nursing home. Paul tells his girlfriend Elaine Connelly about events over 50 years ago.

1932 Paul is the senior warden of the “E” prison block, which contains those sentenced to death in the electric chair. In prison, this block, covered with linoleum in the color of overripe lime, is called The Green Mile (by analogy with the “Last Mile”, which the sentenced last time).

Paul’s responsibilities include execution. Supervisors Harry Terwilliger, Brutus “The Beast” Howell and Dean Stanton, who help him in this, do their work, following the unspoken rule -The Green Mile: “It’s better to treat this place as a reanimation ward. The best thing here is silence. ”

The plot of the book The Green Mile and the film to the smallest detail recalls the plot line of Pontius Pilate and Yeshua Ha-Notsri from Mikhail Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita. It has all the clones and parallels, only the names, types, and historical surroundings are changed - the unjustly condemned righteous man is a miracle worker who heals his executioner; the executioner, torn between a sense of appreciation for the cure, sympathy and dereliction of duty; a convict accepting his fate with due humility; punishment executioner immortality. Even such a detail as a faithful pet was repeated, sharing his long punishment with his beloved master, shrinking from the size of a faithful dog to a mouse.
