Toofan, who was born in Astara, Iran, started playing guitar at age 17, working with Iranian singers including pop singer Googoosh. He started a band of his own and later became a singer as his career grew. Among his popular hit songs were 'Khodaye Asemoonha' and 'Baleh Baleh' before the Islamic revolution banned his mucic in 1979.
