`டெங்குக் காய்ச்சல்’ மனிதர்களிடையே டெங்கு எனும் வைரஸ் கிருமியால் ஏற்படும் காய்ச்சல். வெப்ப மண்டல மற்றும் வெப்ப மண்டல அணிமையிடம் சார்ந்த நாடுகளில் காணப்படும் ஏடிஸ் ஏஜிப்டி (Aedes aegypti) எனும் பெண் கொசுவால் இது பரவுகிறது. இந்த வகைக் கொசு, மற்ற கொசுக்களைப் போலல்லாமல், பகல் வேளைகளில்தான் கடிக்கின்றது.

தென்கிழக்கு ஆசியா, ஆப்ரிக்கா, தென் அமெரிக்கா, கிழக்கு மத்தியதரைக்கடல் பகுதி மற்றும் மேற்கு பசிபிக் பகுதிகளில் உள்ள சுமார் 100 நாடுகளில் இது காணப்படுகிறது. உலகெங்கிலும் ஆண்டுக்கு 6 கோடி பேர் இதனால் பாதிக்கப்படுகின்றனர். இது உயிர் ஆபத்துகளை விளைவிக்கக் கூடிய ஒரு கொடிய நோயாகும், ஆண்டுதோறும் 24,000 பேர் இதனால் இறக்கின்றனர்.
