Another magnificent beast that comes straight from Japanese mythology is the Japanese sea god, Ryujin. This dragon has amazing beauty and powers. The myth tells that this dragon was deity of the sea, thus symbolizing the power of the ocean. Like most dragons he had a large mouth and unlike most dragons he could transform into a human. The beast lived in a palace under the sea built of red and white coral. From this palace the beast controlled the tides with his magical tide jewels. Sea turtles, fish and jellyfish were the servants of this sea god. This great divine dragon often depicted as gold dragon, had a beautiful daughter. The daughter of the sea dragon and the hunter prince were the grand parents of the first emperor of Japan. So according to the legend the Japanese imperial dynasty has dragon origin. Another legend tells that this sea dragon helped a Japanese empress to defeat Korean soldiers. The dragon tossed his tide jewels into the sea and the water level fell, when the soldiers attempted to cross the sea, the dragon god tossed his tide jewels again, the water level rose and the soldiers drowned.
