The prostration of recitation is a single prostration that a Muslim performs if he reads the Holy Qur’an or listens to it, and a verse in which he prostrates passes with him, whether during or outside the prayer. Some of its provisions are explained below:

Ruling on the prostration of recitation: Its ruling is Sunnah, whether in prayer or outside it, and the following matters must be observed when prostrating:

Takbeer: If the prostration of recitation comes and the Muslim is in prayer, he must say takbeer when he prostrates, and he says takbeer when he rises from prostration. But if he is outside the prayer, he should prostrate without standing, no takbeer, no tashahhud, and no salutation.

Purity: Purity is not required for the prostration of recitation, but rather it is a Sunnah, and accordingly it is permissible for the muhaddith, menstruating woman and postpartum women to prostrate to recitation for those who passed a verse of prostration, or listened to a verse in which there is prostration.

Following the imam: If the imam prostrates during the prayer as a prostration of recitation, the follower must follow him, whether this prostration is in a prayer aloud or silently.
