The cumulative circulation of books has exceeded 150 million as of February 2021, making it a world-famous work.

In 2019, it was made into a TV animation by ufotable production, and the first period "Kojiro Kamon Ritsushi Hen" that draws the beginning of the story was broadcast.

In 2020, the theatrical animation "Mugen Train Hen", which depicts the middle part of the story, was released. The box office revenue of this work in Japan reached 40.43 billion yen, making it the number one box office revenue in Japan.

From October 2021 to February 2022, the re-edited version of "Infinite Train Edition" and its sequel "Yukaku Edition" were broadcast as the second period of TV animation. Furthermore, it has been decided to make a TV animation of "Swordsmith's Village Edition".
