At the age of 22, St. Louis native Carta Works is making a name for himself as an in demand makeup artist. Having already beat the faces of Angela Simmons and Love & Hip Hop:ATL stars Tiffany Foxx, Mimi Faust and Tammy Rivera, Carta is working to keep his list of clients growing. I was excited to speak with him and learn how his interview with M.A.C cosmetics was the start to a blossoming career.

CW: Thank you for allowing me to be apart of something so great and special for you.

VA: Wow. Thank you for agreeing to talk with me. I really appreicate it. Now lets get started before I get all emotional (laughs). Talk to me about what made you get into the makeup field

CA: I honestly wanted to try something different. Before doing makeup, I worked in fashion retail. I applied for M.A.C cosmetics and received an interview. My first time ever doing someone else's makeup was during my interview.

VA: How long professionally have you been doing makeup Were there any makeup artist that you looked up to

CW: I've professionally been doing makeup for three years. When I first started, I didn't know about too many artists. As I've grown in the industry, artist like Donovan Lamar, Jacen Bowman, Benni Beauty, Kilprity and Renny Vasquez have become some of my favorites.

VA: What perception do you think most people have when it comes to male makeup artist

CW: That we are all super flamboyant. Which there is nothing wrong with, but we aren't all like that.

VA: Being male you may get negative comments and opinions about doing makeup. What keeps you motivated

CW: The way my clients feel after I'm done with their makeup. The creativity and constant positivity that I receive from my work on myself and others. I don't pay attention to or feed into the negativity.

VA: You've done some familiar faces like Love and Hip Hop:ATL stars Tiffany Foxx, Tammy Rivera and Mimi Faust. What was it like working with these ladies

CW: All three of these ladies were great to work with. They all posses such a positive energy. Of course working with Tiffany Foxx consistenly, I've gotten to know her better than others. She exudes professionalism, sass and a great sense of humor.

VA: What products are on your must have list when it comes to makeup

CW: Of course Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow, M.A.C Gold Deposit skin finish, Ardell Demi Wispie lashes and Blush Lashes Queen B Mink Lashes.

CW: always find what works for you and stick to that.

CW: I will NEVER stop following my dreams. I never compare my journey to others and nobody else should either!
