We hope you find this app useful in your Primary Trauma Care (PTC) training course, in your clinical work, as an instructor, or simply as a handy reminder of the essentials in caring for trauma victims.

Primary Trauma Care is a system of training for front-line staff in trauma management, aimed at preventing death and disability in seriously injured patients.

PTC is aimed specifically at the needs and logistics of health practitioners in the developing world. It is based on straightforward clinical practice and does not require access to high-tech facilities.

We encourage devolution of responsibility that enables these local practitioners to adapt the PTC courses in areas where a comprehensive approach to trauma management was not previously available because of inadequate resources or training.

This training manual is designed to be used only by people who are attending, or already have a certificate of attendance, at the two-day Primary Trauma Care course. For more information and details of courses near you, please go to www.primarytraumacare.org or email [email protected].

Courses have been run in more than 70 countries around the world. All training is provided free of charge; participants are usually asked to contribute a small amount to the cost of the venue and refreshments. Our instructors provide their skills free of charge; they are all experienced volunteers who have completed our Instructor course and are approved by the Primary Trauma Care Foundation.

The PTC course is widely regarded as a worldwide standard for doctors, nurses, paramedics and other health professionals working in resource-poor contexts. The training materials are constantly reviewed and revised from time to time.

All proceeds from this app are put back into supporting further development and update costs, or where needed most in the provision of courses throughout the world.
