  FLIGHT SPEEDS HEAT MAP. This optional layer shows a heat map of averaged real flight speeds, with unusually high speeds seen in a region close to New Zealand. I calculated this layer from the speed between each transmitted point of a large number of flight routes from real position and time broadcasts. I bucketed these speeds into a grid of 1x1 degrees and averaged them, then overlaid it as a heatmap on the AE map. The data indicates possible map distortions and shows a clear tracking boundary.

  New feature: previously when you selected to show airports it would load 8000 airports from a database and just display them as dots on the AE map. I could not display 8000 markers on the Google Map because it is too many. So now, with show-airports selected, it shows all airports from the database within 1000 nautical miles on the Google Map and if you click them you get the details. The reason I added this is that I noticed that some of these airports, according to Google, are in the ocean.

  GPS refreshing tweak in case you only enable GPS after startup. Fix to longitude display (brought into 0-360 range) Bug fix - the tap-screen location feature had a new bug in last release now fixed. Now only loads airports database when you first enable airports toggle button, to reduce memory use for those who don't need it.

  I have been investigating a problem with the app crashing on startup for some users and not others. I suspect it may be because the app depends on having Google Play Services installed. It may have been crashing on startup because this was not installed. You should ensure Google Play Services is installed before running this app:

  Flight route display bug fix. Gave it a more astrolabey look as it is a tribute to the beautiful astrolabe.

  Filtered flight routes to a smaller set to reduce load time. Refactoring and optimisations of the whole app, now much faster refresh rates, lower memory use, changed threading and rendering to prepare for upcoming new features and layers.

  Added static historical flight paths as optional overlays on both the AE and "normal" map as they are fascinating to compare.
