Artifure

“Technology of nature. Augmented reality” is Karolina’s Virkutytė’s bachelor’s degree final project in animation, Vilnius Academy of Arts 2018. “Artifure” is an app used to interact with computer generated images from the work. The work explores the differences and relationships between nature and technology, the name “Artifure” is a mix of “Artificial” and “Nature”.

Nature and technology often may seem like incompatible and conflicting things. Products and processes are constantly being divided into “natural” and “unnatural” to highlight the difference between what comes from the nature and what is created by humans. However, human evolution is based on technological growth, but technological behaviour can also be observed in other species. Also, by using technology we are able to better understand nature and to improve our own technologies by taking inspiration from the nature itself. Natural and artificial are always affecting each other and their collision is natural and inevitable.
