Canvass Tool

This app is designed to help Yes groups in Scotland identify and consolidate support.

If you have ever canvassed an area using pencil and paper, you will know what a pain it can be. From wind and rain damage to data analysis, hours can be wasted. The app is easy to set up, and on first run will prompt for a group name, for an email address to receive collected data, and for your own name as the user. Once set up, the app asks the question or questions determined for the installed version, depending the stage of the national campaign and user feedback. Response options are set accordingly, e.g. Yes, No, Soft No, Undecided.

Before closing a canvass entry, you can tap a button to note that the person interviewed would like to receive further information, is interested in joining the group, or should not be contacted again.

When entered, the data is stored locally and does not require a network connection. You can now move on to the next door. At the end of the session, navigate back to the home page. Here you have the option of sending the results by email to the address you first entered at setup. A backup is saved on the device, in case of any data loss during the email process. This backup can be deleted from within the app once you are satisfied the data has transferred okay. The data is sent in the form of a CSV file, which can be read by all spreadsheet software.

With the results gathered, Yes groups will have a better understanding of support within the canvassed area and be able to build their group and to target resources effectively.

A data protection statement is written into the app, and all groups or users of the app must abide by the conditions set out in that statement.
