AYURVEDA
Ayurveda is a natural system of medicine that originated in India more than 5000 years ago. The term Ayurveda is derived from Sanskrit words Āyu means life and Vedā means knowledge/science.
ACHARYA CHARAK
Acharya Charaka was one of the principal contributors to Ayurveda. His work (Charak Samhita) is considered as an encyclopedia of Ayurveda. His principles in diagnosis and cure retain their potency and truth even after couples of millennia.
CHARAK SAMHITA
Charak Samhita is one of the foundational texts of Ayurveda. The word Samhita means collection or put together. The structure of Samhita is also unique among all Samhitas. The Charaka Samhita states that the content of the book was first taught by Atreya, and then subsequently codified by Agnivesha, revised by Charaka, and the manuscripts that survive into the modern era are based on one completed by Dridhabala. Aacharya Charak revealed human anatomy, embryology, pharmacology, pathology, and medicine with prevention diagnosis and treatment for many more diseases. The Samhita comprises 120 chapters categorized into eight sections or Sthana. The text is written partly in the form of verses, or shloka, and partly in prose. Concepts such as the mahabhuta (fundamental elements that make the human being as well as the universe around him, viz. earth, fire, air, ether, and water), doshas (body senses of humor), dhatus (tissues), and other critical concepts have been included. The principles and applications to explain human physiology, etiology of diseases, clinical sciences, etc. are emphasized. The final section is titled Siddhi, underscoring the key objectives of the book is to help the reader attain emancipation through health.
