About ElectroPi for Android
EPi for Android allows users to control their EPi/track which users are home!
Turning lights on or off from a phone is not a new thing. But those lights and appliances knowing when you're home or not? That is. ElectroPi is an open-source Home Automation solution developed to fix what current HA systems do not cover:
- Tracking of users' presence in the home
- Control of both WiFi and RF-based switches
- Control from any device with a browser
- Open source software/hardware!
- And much more!
This client app not only lets you control the ElectroPi server's interface, but also has a background service that "checks in" to the EPi now and then to let it know you're home. This check-in service does not noticeably affect battery life, and doesn't even run without a connection to your own WiFi network, don't worry!
Here's how to get started:
After installing the app, reboot your phone to set the check-in service running. With the EPi server already configured and online, open the app and you'll be prompted to enter the server's IP address. (Default is 192.168.1.88) Next - nickname the device and set your WiFi network's SSID so that the service knows which network it's allowed to execute on. If you ever need to return to the app's configuration screen, swipe left at any time.
You're now good to go! The app will display the ElectroPi controls you're used to, and start checking in to the server once in a while to let it know you're home.
