AFMENTAL is a Telemed application designed to provide medical support to people with mental and psycho-social disabilities, poor physical health, and subject to human rights violations to affordable care. Afmental engages Clinical mental health counselors and Mental Healthcare Providers are interacting with clients through a wide range of technological tools including, video conferencing.

This technology breaches barriers to mental health services for vulnerable and enclaved populations across Africa remotely, sometimes over great distances, making it possible to bring life-changing services.

This technology aims at delivering mental health care remotely, and sometimes over great distances—is making it possible to bring life-changing services to populations who previously may have lacked access to them. Clinical mental health counselors and Mental Healthcare Providers are interacting with clients through a wide range of technological tools including, video conferencing via Afmental.

Afmental is a mental health poverty and development project .We believe that Mental health issues cannot be considered in isolation from other areas of development, such as education, employment, emergency responses and human rights capacity building.

Mental Health Therapist and Providers across the globe as a way of giving back to their communities are pitching in to help people with mental and psychosocial disabilities meet their care needs. We link vulnerable people with mental health disabilities to Healthcare providers of goodwill.

People with mental and psychosocial disabilities are a vulnerable group as a result of the way they are treated by society. For instance, up to two thirds of people with HIV/AIDS have depression, while rates of mental disability among the homeless can be greater than 50%, but their mental health needs are commonly not addressed. They are subjected to stigma and discrimination on a daily basis, and they experience extremely high rates of physical and sexual victimization. Frequently, people with mental disabilities encounter restrictions in the exercise of their political and civil rights, and in their ability to participate in public affairs. They also are restricted in their ability to access essential health and social care, including emergency relief services. Most people with mental disabilities face disproportionate barriers in attending school and finding employment. As a result of all these factors, people with mental disability are much more likely to experience disability and die prematurely, compared with the general population.
