Flamenco itself encompasses music, song and dance. It is a multidisciplinary art whose origins date back to the 18th century in Spain and specifically in the autonomous community of Andalusia and in some areas of Extremadura (Spain) and Murcia (Spain). There is a theory that says that it comes from the Andalusian term 'fellah min gueir ard', which means something like 'landless peasant'. Flamenco is an art that is the result of the crossbreeding of gypsies, Arabs, Jews and Christians. Flamenco has been more popularly related to gypsies, although it is true that gypsy rhythms are unique, there are flamenco artists all over the world.

Flamenco is an art recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since 2010.
