One of the most distinctive features of snakes is their lack of limbs. Instead, they have evolved a unique body structure that allows them to move efficiently on land and in water. By utilizing their strong muscles and belly scales, snakes employ a fascinating technique known as "rectilinear locomotion" to propel themselves forward.

Another notable characteristic of snakes is their ability to swallow prey much larger than their own head. Snakes possess a highly flexible jaw structure, consisting of several bones joined by elastic ligaments, allowing them to open their mouths wide and consume prey whole. After swallowing, the snake's digestive system goes into overdrive, breaking down the meal with powerful acids.

Snakes are carnivorous, and their diet primarily consists of small mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. They are equipped with specialized teeth, either fangs or rows of recurved teeth, depending on their feeding habits. Venomous snakes, such as cobras and vipers, have hollow fangs that deliver venom to immobilize or kill their prey.
