A lunar eclipse is an astronomical phenomenon that occurs when the Earth's shadow blocks sunlight reflected on the moon in normal conditions. This phenomenon occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon are in complete planetary conjunction (total eclipse) or approximate (to partial eclipse).

There are three types of eclipses

A total eclipse occurs when the entire moon enters the Earth's shadow. In this case, the entire disk of the moon is eclipsed, which leads to a complete loss of vision in the middle of the night.

A partial eclipse occurs when part of the moon enters the Earth's shadow area, in which case part of the moon's disk is eclipsed, and the Earth's shadow appears on the face of the moon.

A semi-shadow eclipse occurs when the moon enters the semi-shadow region only, in which case the moon's light becomes faint without being eclipsed.

The semi-shadow region is the region in which part of the sunlight is obscured from the moon, meaning that the observer of the sun from the moon's surface sees it partially eclipsed. This type is not classified as a legitimate eclipse.

So for a total eclipse to occur, the previous two eclipses must occur. At the beginning of the total eclipse, the color of the moon tends to red because of the red rays that cannot be absorbed from the top of the Earth's atmosphere.

When observing the eclipsed sun and moon at the same time, this eclipse is called a horizontal eclipse (Selenehelion). This can happen only before sunset or immediately after sunrise, and both bodies will appear exactly above the horizon at almost opposite points in the sky and the sun and the eclipsed moon can be seen at the same time because the refraction of light through the Earth’s atmosphere reflects the images of both bodies above the eastern horizon or West and appear higher in the sky than their true geometric position. It is a visual illusion visible.
