St. Augustine is the oldest city in the United States, discovered by Ponce de Leon while searching for the Fountain of Youth and then founded as a city over fifty years later by Pedro Menendez in 1565. St. Augustine is said to be one of the most haunted cities in the United States, and many locals will tell personal stories of their ghostly encounters. Some say most parts of the city were built over unmarked graves and many of the brick streets will not be paved because of the bones that rest beneath.
