Kukes - A Little History

The first foundations of the city of New Kukës were laid on July 22, 1962 and it was built in less than 10 years by the hand of the inhabitants of Kukës.

It is located in the northeastern part of Albania, lying at the coordinates 42.09 ° V, 20.43 ° L, at an altitude of 340-360 m above sea level and about 100 m above the old Kukes. It has an area of 1.44 km²m and extends from north to south of 1.4 km and from east to west 900 m. The city has the elongated shape of a peninsula and is surrounded on all three sides by Lake Fierza and the park forest and a favorable geographical position as it is located at the intersection of the road network that connects it with Tirana and the basins of Dibra, Tropoja, Mirdita, Shkodra. of Kosovo. The city of Kukës is connected to the southwestern units by the bridge over the Drini i Zi valley and to the northwestern units by the bridge over the Drini i Bardhë valley.
