Language is a combination of words and rules to put the words together in a meaningful way (grammar). Words are the main ingredients of a language and they take the longest to learn. An aid to learn words of great variety fast and with ease and clarity is a huge plus. This course is such a tool. Words represent ideas and things; without an adequate vocabulary one can neither write nor speak well. Words are the most important element of 'communication skills' without which one will find it hard to get a good job or feel socially confident. Words are also the tools of thought. A certain thought is unlikely to occur to us if we don't have a word for it. Conversely, capacity to think is dependent upon our arsenal of concept words. Primitive societies have only a small stock of words, and so is their capacity to think. In the last few decades, American English has invented a large number of concept words, taking help from science, sports, medicine and other fields, that help one to communicate with greater effectiveness. Many such concept words are included in this course and have been explained well. Concepts such as 'critical mass', 'ball game', 'black box', 'osmosis', 'spin-off', 'trade-off', 'window', 'hidden agenda', 'lag time' and 'lead time' help us convey with brevity what may otherwise take some sentences to explain. Most English words are derived from Latin/Greek roots. One root may give rise to several words; if we know the root, it's easy to learn Several related words.

The course has several chapters dealing with roots and the words emanating from them. One can't really be called 'educated' unless one has some awareness of modern art, dance forms, alcoholic drinks (whether one drinks or not), certain kinds of foreign food, and beverages, architectural terms and the like. The course has information on a lot of such stuff. It's a widespread lament that most college graduates are unemployable on account of low general awareness and communication skills. This course will help one meet such deficiencies in some measure. The course will add to one's market value and level of confidence, and thus enhance employability and social image. Whereas the essentiality of the course for college graduates is hugely apparent, several parts of the course are of considerable help to middle school/ high school students too. This is the stage when one learns faster and what one learns sinks deep.
