Lifeguard Demo App

This is the DEMO VERSION of the Lifeguard App. Lifeguard Demo shows how the app connects you to mental health services or emergency services in the case of an overdose. It provides a look and feel to all the users who are not in the area that Lifeguard is presently available. All the demo app users can submit a request to have Lifeguard Live in their area.

The Lifeguard App is designed to provide users with a secure and privacy-preserving means of preventing overdoses when using substances alone, putting life-saving technology directly into the hands of the user.

Emergency response within the first 10 minutes of drug use is critical to the survival of those experiencing an overdose. The Lifeguard App enables users to interrupt an accidental overdose anonymously and efficiently by sending a prioritized alert to the proper paramedic services. The app also connects users with relevant support services, such as a Crisis Line and Suicide Prevention Line.

The Lifeguard App is an easy and effective way to prevent a fatal overdose. Simply activate the app before the consumption of substances. The app will confirm the user’s location and begin a one-minute countdown for the user to consume the drug. If the user is unable to consciously stop the timer before its expiry (indicating the user is in distress), the app sends an encrypted text-to-voice call directly to emergency responders with critical details, such as the user's location, the drug is taken, and the corresponding time. Once paramedics are dispatched, all personal call details and privacy information is automatically deleted from the app and database.

The Lifeguard App has been developed in collaboration with British Columbia Emergency Health Services and Provincial Health Services of British Columbia, enabled by the British Columbia Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction.

The App is intended for use within the territory of the Province of British Columbia and Ontario, and the App or any of its content may not be available, accessible, or functional outside these territories. If you’re interested in getting the app in your area, please contact us.

Privacy & Security:

No data is transmitted in the demo app. When you call emergency services via the Lifeguard app, all associated call details are erased from the app as soon as paramedics are dispatched. No personal data is collected or retained by Lifeguard App.

Only emergency services will have access to user data, which is anonymized and used for informing regional public health prevention response parties.

The anonymized data is not available or sold to any other person, entity, government department, or service. Lifeguard App is compliant with all industry privacy practices and regulations and meets the highest global standards.
