Light Meter is a photography aid for lux, EV, ISO, shutter, and aperture. Set the ISO you will use on the taking camera, then measure. The app solves shutter or aperture from the light it sees.

TWO WAYS TO METER

• Incident — light falling on the subject. Uses the phone’s ambient light sensor when the device has one.

• Reflection — light bouncing off the scene. Point the rear camera at what you will photograph and tap Measure. Use this when you cannot stand in the subject’s light, or when the phone has no light sensor.

EXPOSURE TRIANGLE

• ISO, T (shutter), and F (aperture)

• Tv-first or Fv-first: tap T to keep shutter and solve aperture, or tap F to keep aperture and solve shutter

• Full, ½, or ⅓ stop steps

COMPENSATION AND FILTERS

• Exposure compensation — calibrate Incident in thirds of a stop when this phone reads brighter or darker than a meter you trust

• ND / filter — add glass stops for an ND on the taking lens (off, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 10)

• Copy reading — one tap puts the last exposure on the clipboard

Phone sensors and cameras differ. Angle, cover glass, and how still you hold the phone all move the number. Do not use Light Meter for legal, regulatory, scientific, or professional certification. For official exposure, use a calibrated meter.
