Miastoteka

Moving around Warsaw, I see many examples of vandalism. Graffiti, garbage, damaged benches and fences. In such moments I ask myself: "Why won't someone fix this?", "Why the city authorities won't take care of it?". It's true, that there is a whole range of people responsible for maintaining cleanliness. I prefer not to even think what our cities would look like without their hard work! Nevertheless, I feel that something should be done. Painting over or cleaning of the graffiti, by which I pass every day, sounds quite feasible, right? Following this train of thought, I asked another question: "Why won't I do something about it?". This question is better. It does not disclose responsibility on others and implies personal commitment. However, I can't do it all by myself. I need to somehow organize a community. That's how the idea for the app was born.

In a nutshell, Miastoteka is a list of tasks on the city map. Tasks (in app called places) are added to the system by taking a photo and providing a description. You can only add a photo taken at a given moment with the phone's location service enabled. This should prevent random photos from the Internet from flooding the app because it forces direct contact with the given place. Add to this a confirmation system which would ensure that the given place has been brought to order and we are all set!
