Amapiano DJ/producer Ntokzin became a key player in the scene after his series of collaborations with fellow superproducer De Mthuda. Their 2020 album, Ace Of Spades, recorded during the first pandemic lockdown, is a contemporary take on kwaito with elements of jazz and Afrohouse, as showcased on the popular singles “uMsholozi” and “Dakwa Yini”. Ntokzin was born in the Johannesburg township of Tembisa and grew up in the neighbouring Vosloorus, where he started making music as DJ Stars in 2017 while still in school. In addition to releasing his own hits like “Better Days” and “NgineNtombi”, Ntokzin has become one of the most sought-after producers in amapiano, having crafted multiple bangers for artists such as fellow Vosloorus musician Boohle’s “Singili”, one of the genre’s biggest songs of 2021.
