Optel Proximity

This application is intended to contribute in helping people get back to work safely. It is a simple proximity detector. No information is shared, captured or gathered.

One of the key tools we have to stay safe and keep others safe in this time period, especially in the context of getting back to work, is to keep a distance of about 2 meters between us and our co-workers. This application helps remind us when we forget and get too close to another user, making this practice much more reliable than on its own.

It uses only the proximity detection functions initially developed for the Singapore contact tracing application. Without the contact recording and data gathering features of the original application, this application becomes an additional tool anybody can now use to supplement any safety measures anywhere.

This application will require location permission to properly access the required Bluetooth features to estimate distance to other users, but no actual location information will ever be accessed.

Having the application active not only helps remind us to keep our distances, but also helps build that social reflex in others, even those who may not have a smartphone at all.
