A great cake and awesome decorations will keep guests happy for a little while, but fun party games get everyone laughing and really having a blast. Whether it's an outdoor obstacle course, wagon slalom, or newspaper walk, there are lots of ways to add a bit of silliness to any birthday celebration. Plus, kids love getting to put their skills to the test in an interactive game and adults are equally as thrilled when challenged out of their comfort zone.

The classic party game, charades, is perfect for all ages. Pick a theme like movies, songs or books and have one player from each team act out what's being described to them. Each time a team member successfully guesses correctly, they get a point. The first team to earn a set number of points wins.

Another great group game that requires some prep work is a variation of musical chairs. Instead of a chair, you place an object, such as a wafer cookie, on each person's forehead. Players move around the circle but only when music is playing. If they bump into the item or drop it, they must stop moving and start again. The last player to freeze is out and the person who is 'It' starts the next round.

This is a hilarious game that's ideal for adult parties. It's sort of like reverse charades in which the team members draw names and phrases that they have to try and slip into conversation without being caught.
