Relatome

Learning anatomy can be a daunting task for many medical and biology major students. Memorizing tens of thousands of body parts can be a challenge for many. The ambiguity around where parts are precisely located has made it even harder for students to learn anatomy. Existing anatomy apps like 3D Anatomy Atlas, where users can search for anatomical parts in the app, offer pictorial representations of individual anatomical structures. However, these apps often provide limited information concerning where the structures are located in relation to other structures.

For instance, given a certain anatomical structure, these apps may show diagrams containing the part as well as just a few other anatomical structures. However, these apps fall short in offering a description of the location of anatomical structures in relation to other structures not shown in the diagram, yet students are constantly being tested on these relationships during exams.

Thus, we see an opportunity in providing users a better way to obtain information of where anatomical structures are located in relation to other structures, and ultimately a better way to learn anatomy. The app will also offer a platform to facilitate students to discuss and share ways and mnemonics to learn anatomy interactively and effectively.

The name Relatome is taken from the prefix “Rela” ( rela in relationship) and the suffix “tome” (as in to me). The name rhymes with the word anatomy. We hope to deliver an app that allows users to learn the relationships of different anatomical parts easier and hopefully, users learning anatomy will find the content delivered by the app relatable to their studies and beneficial.
