Cartoons aren't "real" except as in a Cartoon can be a real Cartoon as opposed to other motion pictures where a device such as a camcorder fires photons and records the imprints they have bouncing back.
Projecting the images in them that, depending on equipment the projection is more or less a copy of real-life matter.

..While cartoons are drawn and scanned which can be meant to be 'life-like' and resemble reality, it ofc never can - not truly. 

Even that captured with camcorders aren't 'real' just like the projection of photons/light from things captured by our eyes aren't even real in the sense that they're true copies of what they project. 

Anime even though often are more life-like than Cartoons in both visage and alot of storylines written - are even less so, rightfully categorized as a very unique yet versatile "Medium'. 

Cartoons fall short of that in alot of ways and aren't " Real-ly" anything but static drawings who with various techniques are made to look as if in motion. 

So the hinted "plenty" don't exist either. 
Anything said to be seen by something non-existent naturally are the same. 

Nicely said we sometimes call them Myths. 

Then ofc there's the issue of multiple interpretations of something but thats another story..
