Symphony

Symphony is a proper music notation editor that fits in your pocket.

Tap the staff and a note appears exactly where you touched, spelled correctly for

the key you are in. Press play and hear it back. Export a clean, engraved PDF you

can hand to a player, or a MusicXML file you can open in Finale, Sibelius,

MuseScore or Dorico and keep working on at your desk.

WRITE MUSIC, NOT SETTINGS

• Touch the staff to place a note — the pitch follows the key signature

• A built-in keyboard for entering a melody by ear

• Long-press a note and the tools fan out around your finger: sharp, flat,

natural, octave, dot, delete

• A magnifier under your fingertip so you can see what you are aiming at

• Pinch to zoom from 50% to 250% — write close up, then step back to read

• Unlimited undo and redo, and your work saves itself as you go

REAL NOTATION, PROPERLY ENGRAVED

Symphony is not a piano-roll toy. It engraves your music the way an engraver

would:

• Key signatures from seven flats to seven sharps, major and minor

• Simple, compound and irregular time signatures — 4/4, 6/8, 5/4, 7/8 and more

• Five clefs: treble, treble 8vb, bass, alto and tenor

• Whole notes down to 64ths, up to three dots, triplets and chords

• Multiple voices on one staff, with stems that point the right way

• Ties, slurs, trills, mordents, turns and grace notes

• Staccato, staccatissimo, accent, marcato, tenuto and fermata

• Dynamics from ppp to fff

• Five bar-line styles, including repeats

• Key, time and tempo changes in the middle of a piece

Beams group by the meter you chose. Accidentals follow the rules across the bar.

Ledger lines, stem lengths and note spacing are all calculated, not guessed.

HEAR WHAT YOU WROTE

A built-in synthesiser plays your score back with piano and voice sounds. Ties

are joined, ornaments are played out, articulations change the length and weight

of each note, and a playhead follows the music across the page.

Mute or solo any part, set its volume, or transpose it an octave at a time.

TAKE IT ANYWHERE

Export through Android's own file picker, so your file can land in Downloads, on

an SD card, or in whichever cloud app you already use:

• MusicXML — the standard interchange format, for Finale, Sibelius, MuseScore,

Dorico and Flat

• MIDI — carry the arrangement into a DAW or a keyboard

• PDF — an A4 engraved score, ready to print or send to a player

• WAV — a 44.1 kHz stereo render of exactly what you hear

• Project backup — reopen it here later

Import works too: open a MusicXML file from anywhere on your device, or send one

to Symphony from another app.

Symphony asks for no storage permission to do any of this.

A calm dark theme by default, a light theme for daylight, or follow your system.

Colour-coded parts so you can pick out a line at a glance. Adjustable staff size.

Eight languages: English, 한국어, Français, Deutsch, Italiano, Español, 中文 and

日本語 — and on first launch the app simply matches your phone.

PRIVATE BY DEFAULT

Your scores live on your phone and nowhere else. There is no account and no

server holding your music. The app goes online for one reason only: to show the

occasional advert that keeps it free, and you are asked for consent first where

the law requires it. You can change that answer any time in Settings.
