Aster Messages

Aster Messages is a private, ad-free SMS and MMS app for Android.

Your texts stay in your phone's own message store, and the app never uploads them. There's no Aster server between you and the people you text, and there are no ads, trackers, or analytics in the app. When you make Aster Messages your default messaging app, the conversations already on your phone appear right away.

Private by design

- Your messages go only to your carrier, never to Aster

- No ads, tracking, telemetry, or profiling

- No account needed, and no Google Play services required

Everyday messaging

- SMS, MMS, and group messages, with photos and voice messages

- Dual SIM support

- Schedule a message to send later

- React to messages with emoji

- Optional link previews, off until you turn them on

A quieter inbox

- Optionally filter unknown senders into their own list, while one-time codes still alert you

- Block numbers, and report spam to your carrier through 7726

- Copy a one-time code from its notification

- Open package tracking numbers on the carrier's tracking page

- Optional logos for businesses that text you

Security

- Hide message text in notifications

- Back up your messages to an encrypted file that only your passphrase opens, and restore them later

Your style

- Hundreds of photo wallpapers for your chats, or your own photo

- Pin, archive, and mute conversations

Aster account (optional)

If you have an Aster Mail account, you can sign in to use the same theme and profile photo as Aster Mail and to turn on Lockdown, which asks for your fingerprint, face, or screen lock when you return to the app. Your messages stay on your phone when you sign in.

SMS and MMS are carrier protocols, and neither one is encrypted in transit. Aster Messages keeps your messages private on your device, and it doesn't claim to encrypt what your carrier carries.

Aster Messages is free and requires Android 10 or later.
