Congratulations on the day of the Baptism of Russia.
July 28 — The Day of the Baptism of Rus. Supported by the boyars, the Kiev prince Vladimir ordered in the summer of 988 the people of Kiev to undergo the rite of acquiring the Christian faith in the redemptive waters of the Dnieper, and threatened the disobedient with expulsion to the outskirts of the principality. He became the baptist of Holy Russia, and after his death gained the rank of saint. July 28 is the church day of commemoration of Prince Vladimir. He undertook to overcome the discord of pagan beliefs, introduced Christianity borrowed from Greece in Russia, establishing a single state religion — the foundation for the future unification of a single Russia from the warring principalities.
