About Eight:Seven

The mission of Eight:Seven is “equipping the church and her people for excellence in the grace of giving.”

Here’s why that’s so very important. The church is God’s agent for His work of renewal and redemption in this troubled world. Nothing else has the potential for God and good like the church. Yet, in too many parts of the world, the church seems impotent in its assignment. The struggle for survival has replaced mission and vision. Even in countries experiencing rapid growth in church membership, the impact on communities and society seems greatly hampered.

There is a direct relationship between the impact of the church and her level of excellence in the giving grace. Studies show that any social group that is devoid of a commitment to giving is destined for stagnation in impact. In contrast, where giving is a practiced core value, growth and impact follow.

The church in much of the world has historically been funded, in large part, through grants from the west. This has produced an economic dependence that robs the church of her intended identity and vision. This dependence is too often fed by or married to experiences of economic hardship. For many, poverty mistakenly dictates a total commitment to a survival mentality.

God is a giver. Giving is a foundational virtue in the Christian life. That’s why Jesus said, “It is better to give than to receive.” A generous lifestyle, reflecting the grace of giving, frees one from egocentricity, opening the heart and mind for God’s dramatic impact.

The leadership of the church must include guiding her people into lifestyles of Godly generosity.
