About TourVR
Experience Austria's alpine landscape at home, with TourVR and Google Cardboard.
TourVR makes it possible to use cheap VR hardware, like Google Cardboard, to experience GPS routes from all over the world. Use it to plan future hiking tours, share your past biking tours or plane flights with friends, or visit far away places at home.
Includes a example route with a great view at Austria's Dachstein, but also supports using your own routes with the formats GPX, KML and IGC.
How to navigate the menu:
Look continuously at a button to activate it.
To exit a route, turn your head by 180 degree and activate the exit button.
How to use custom routes:
1. Connect your phone with your PC
2. Navigate to the following path: Phone\Android\data\com.stixgames.vrmaps\files\Routes
3. If the folder Routes does not exist, create a new folder (the first letter has to be capitalized)
4. Copy your routes into the folder
5. Use refresh button in the app. The route menu is left from the main menu, turn your head to access it.
You can now access your routes.
GPX and KML are interpreted as hiking routes, while IGC files will be handled as flight routes.
To improve the visual quality of custom routes you should make sure that your routes are as small as possible. Large routes (length of over 10km) will cause a blurry landscape.
Flight routes do not have this restriction, but they require more download traffic.
Error message on custom routes:
The app is restricted by Bing Maps, only 50000 satellite images can be loaded per day; multiple images are used per route visualization. When no satellite images are shown, please wait for a day and try again.
If only one image is missing, this might be because Bing Maps' servers were overloaded, you can try to reload the route, or ignore the missing image.
