Vojo is a private messenger built on the open Matrix protocol
Vojo is a small, private chat app. It connects to Matrix — the same
open protocol that Element and other clients use — so your
conversations belong to you, and you choose where they live.
Direct chats are end-to-end encrypted out of the box. The text you
send leaves your phone scrambled and only becomes readable on the
other person's device. The server I run can't read it, and neither
can any server that helps deliver it on the way.
What's inside:
- One-to-one and group chats
- Voice calls — with a proper full-screen incoming-call screen, the
way phone calls used to feel
- Sharing photos, files, voice notes
- Reactions, replies, quoting, the usual chat stuff
Bridges to other networks
If you have contacts on Telegram, Discord or WhatsApp, you can
optionally hook them up to Vojo and write to them from one app.
Nothing activates by itself — bridges only turn on when you log
into them.
By default Vojo signs you in to vojo.chat, the Matrix server I run.
If you'd rather connect to someone else's server, the login screen
lets you switch.
A few things this app doesn't do:
- No ads
- No tracking SDKs
- No selling data, no profiling, no "personalisation"
- No access to your photos, address book, SMS or location — Vojo
simply doesn't ask for any of that
Vojo is an independent project. Full details on how data is handled
